The next Edwin L. Artzt Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication will make a cross-country trek for the new role, bringing with him international expertise that Scott Coltrane, provost and senior vice president, hopes “will significantly expand the global reach of the college and dramatically enhance learning opportunities for our SOJC students.”

Veteran public broadcaster Phil Hoffman, an educator and documentary filmmaker whose programs have earned nearly 30 Emmy nominations, will be the new executive director of WUCF TV.

Kimberly van Noort has been named Vice President for Academic Programs and Instructional Strategy of the 17-campus University of North Carolina. She comes to the UNC system staff from the University of Texas at Arlington, the second largest campus in the UT system, where she currently serves as Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and Director of University College.

Dr. Mary Ann Danowitz has been named dean of North Carolina State University’s College of Education after serving as its interim leader since July 2015. Provost Warwick Arden announced Danowitz’s permanent appointment, which is effective April 1, 2016.

Sabrina Andrews has been named executive director of the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Analytics (OIRAA) for the University of South Carolina System. She joined the university on February 29.

The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents has elected James M. Smith as the University’s 23^rdpresident. Smith will assume the duties on July 1, 2016.

Hossein Haj-Hariri, an MIT-trained scientist who most recently served as professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, was appointed dean of the University of South Carolina's College of Engineering and Computing on Tuesday.
