Vice President and Director of Athletics

The University of New Mexico seeks a Vice President and Director of Athletics to provide visionary leadership for its NCAA Division I athletics program. Reporting to the President and serving on the Executive Leadership Team, this role oversees 18 men’s and women’s sports and ensures alignment with the University’s mission, values, and strategic goals. A consistent Mountain West contender and national leader among Group of Six programs, UNM Athletics is recognized for broad-based competitive success, academic achievement, and a passionate fan base. The Vice President and Director of Athletics will guide the department through a dynamic intercollegiate landscape, ensuring compliance with NCAA, Mountain West Conference, and Title IX requirements while driving innovation, revenue generation, and national visibility. This leader will support student-athlete success, foster an inclusive and ethical culture, and collaborate across campus and with external stakeholders to strengthen community engagement and institutional pride.
