Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies

The University of Central Florida invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Provost and Dean, College of Graduate Studies. This position reports to the Provost and Executive Vice President.

With more than 50,000 undergraduate and 8,500 graduate students, UCF is one of the most dynamic universities in the country. Currently 92 undergraduate, 85 master's and 30 doctoral programs are offered along with the M.D. degree in the College of Medicine. The College of Graduate Studies is responsible for providing leadership and vision for graduate education at the university, developing university-wide graduate plans and policies, coordinating graduate activities, distributing tuition support and fellowships to the colleges, facilitating the adoption of new graduate programs, coordinating the recruitment of graduate applicants, admitting graduate students to the university, ensuring that academic standards are maintained, and certifying successful completion of graduation requirements and awarding graduate degrees. The Vice Provost and Dean provides the overall vision and leadership required to fulfill the mission of the college and to achieve university goals in teaching, research, and service. The dean is expected to work with faculty and staff members to offer quality academics and provide leadership for developing new degree programs. The Dean serves as a member of both the Provost's Council and the Deans' Council.

Strongly preferred qualifications include:

  • a distinguished record of accomplishment meriting appointment at the rank of professor in a UCF department that offers graduate programming
  • a strong record of scholarship and research
  • the vision, professional ability, and ethical standards to provide academic leadership and promote graduate education
  • the highest academic standards and be capable of stimulating the development of innovative degree programs and delivery systems
  • be capable of structuring and implementing an effective recruitment program with an emphasis on outreach to non-traditional and underrepresented students
  • skills in fostering strong, collaborative partnerships with demonstrated success in partnering with business and industry
  • significant administrative position(s) in a university setting
  • a record of successful interaction with faculty members, staff, and students
  • experience in multidisciplinary activities
  • a commitment to diversity
  • ability to articulate the college mission to external communities, including alumni and potential donors
  • exceptional communication skills

Search Process

The Search Committee invites letters of nomination, applications (with a letter of interest, a complete CV, and a list of references that includes their contact information), or expressions of interest to be submitted to the search firm assisting UCF. References will be contacted only for short-listed candidates after notification of the candidates. Review of materials will begin immediately and continue until the appointment is made. Applications received after this date may be considered at the discretion of the Committee and/or hiring authority. It is preferred that all nominations and applications be submitted prior to August 8, 2012.
